August Zone Battle
The August Zone Battle is a litter picking competition that runs through the entire month of August. As many people travel or are out of town during our group cleanups in August, this encourages Chicagoans to pick up litter outside of group events, whenever and wherever they have time! We make it a competition between the North and West + South Sides based on the breakdown of where our membership lives, and to encourage some friendly rivalry while rewarding the individuals who participate. The zone that picks up the most litter (by volume) will get unlimited bragging rights, and the individuals that pick up the most litter will receive a trophy and a variety of prizes. We will provide updates on the totals on a weekly basis.
Current Standings as of 8/9/2026:
North Side: 15 Bags
West + South Sides: 1 Bag
The competition rules are:
1) You must be a Cleanup Club member to participate! To become a member, please fill out our short membership form.
2) You must take photos of your litter haul and tell us how many bags you filled + where you did the cleaning! Posting in our Facebook group is best because you can “trash talk” the other team! We also accept tags of our Instagram account (@cleanupclub_chicago), Instagram messages, and emails.
3) Litter picking cannot be part of an organized group event - it’s intended to be “extracurricular cleaning” for individuals (or a few individuals) doing it whenever they have time.
4) We define the North Side as north of Madison St and east of I-90. West Side is west of I-90 and North of Madison St, and South Side is south of Madison St.
